I'm attending American International College in Cambridge, Ma. I started there in a certificate program, and my employer agreed to pay for the course. My employer agreed to pay $5000 at a time until I was through with the course. I got laid off, and my employer no longer covers tuition.

I notified the school of my situation, and they told me that I was committed for the entire tuition, and that if I had attended any more than three weeks, I could not leave without owing the entire tuition.

That was about seven months ago now, and I'm told that this is not legal, and that I should have been allowed to leave without owing anything out of my pocket. My employer had covered the tuition up to the point where I notified them I wanted out. The school has changed their name twice now since I've been there, and I have the feeling it's because of their business practices....

Any help would be appreciatedWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

So, someone with no actual legal knowledge. It is perfectly legal for the school to have a deadline to withdraw from classes and get a refund. I'd be more surprised if they DIDN'T have one.

No, they don't have any actual legal knowledge. That's why I came here. I understand having a withdraw period, but this is a two year course that you are locked into after three weeks. Withdraw periods are usually per class or module. I'm trying to find out if there are any guidelines set for schools regarding this.

No guidelines, each school will set their own policy. Basically from what I understand you are wanting to leave this school and go to another. Your first school is entitled to payment for the services you agreed to.
