I work in Minnesota.

My husband has recently been transfered to another part of the state. I let my employer know that I would be moving once the house had sold and my daughter is in school until June 6th. Yesterday he came to me and asked if May 31st was ok for my end date...being that I had sold my house.

My question is this: Can I draw unemployment on them since this is a condition that I could not help (the move) and am leaving on those terms? When signing termination papers... can I ruin my chances by it saying something like self termination? Should I have her put on there because I had to move and then sign it? Where can I find out more information on Minnesota Labor Laws? I would like to read up more on this.

Thank You all so much for helping us all out!!!

At a quick glance I could not tell whether or not quitting because of a spouse's transfer is considered a "valid" reason for quitting in Minnesota. In some states it is; in other states it isn't. But you can check out this link and maybe find some additional information.

NO your husbands job transfer is NOT a good reason to quit a job.

You should ask your employer for a layoff notice, and then try and file.

But be forewarned if they have a hearing to determine if you can collect it will be in the city you are now living in, so it will be aloooonggg drive back.

You cannot quit or resign....you must be layed off or fired to collect.

rdeslaur, there are situations when you can collect UC if you quit your job. We just don't know if your situation is one of them in your State.

You can certainly call your local UC office and ask.
