LOSS OF JOB THROUGH MALICIOUS STORIES.
I am a graduate student who applied for several graduate assistantships. I will not say what school I am in for now. Anyway, I landed one assistantship that was paying very little. The salary is monthly. 3 weeks later I was called for an interview for another assistantship in an entirely different dept . This second one was offering much more money and the job was so much more fun. They offered me the position verbally and I promised to get back to them within a week. I intended to use that week as a notice period for my current job. When I told my current supervisor I was quitting, she was hurt and wanted to know why. I told her I had a better offer and she was livid. She was abusive and threatened to report me to the new place so that they would know they are dealing with an unreliable and materialistic person. I did not think she was serious but she actually contacted them through someone else informing them that I could not take up the new position without completing 20 hours for her. I know that was the truth but I think she prejudiced the prospective employers .I had no intention of not working the 20 hours. It was a malicious action and as a result, they have not put their offer in writing yet. I might lose this great job because of this woman’s meddling. Is there any legal action I can take?
