Booked cruise on 6/21 (Renaissance Cruiselines, Florida). $4003 Posted to my Chase Visa on 6/22. I paid in full on on 7/18. I live in New Jersey. Trip scheduled for 12/31/01. Cruiseline went bankrupt on 9/26/01 and told clients to contact their credit cards and insurance companies for refunds. I did not take out insurance. My credit card is not giving me a credit (I pay it in full each month).

Do I have any legal rights with Fair Credit Billing Act? Any suggestions in dealing with credit card. Other affected travelers have received credit on their cards.

You were supposed to tell the cc company to reverse the charges with the merchant. In other words, take it back. Call the cc company and tell them the firm is bk and for them to reverse the billing .
Also, pull out the agreement with Chase and see if they provide insurance for tickets purchased on a cc.

Sorry, I was unclear. I had a brainlock-must be old timers setting in!
Ask the cc company to charge back the merchant due to the bk.
Good luck!

Dear bigun, Thank you so much for your advise. I did what you said, and my credit card credited my account.:)

Jo Ann,

Glad it worked out ok. You're very wise to put travel items on a cc for just such an event.
Just an idea but, if you travel frequently and run large balances you might try and get a Discover Platnium Card. You get the cc protection on purchases and they are giving 1% cashback on purchases. Might as well try and get the best deal you can!
