i lost my job because of termination of contract (3 months advance notice was given to me) so i resigned and changed jobs but my new job with the state of louisiana as a teacher pays once a month and i can`t pay for july`s rent as i live check by check and i`m on chapter 13 bankruptcy law. i don`t have no place to borrow money and i don`t know no one in usa as i am a puerto rican that served in the marines and stayed in usa working. i received an eviction letter and I`m wondering how can i convince the judge that i can pay the rent but after i start getting paid regularly again. if they evict me i will have to go to the city shelter with my wife and 2 kids as i have a co signer (my mom) and i have very hard time renting because of my chp 13.

thanks !!!!

When you go to the court, talk to the landlord's lawyer, talk to the judge, talk to everyone. They will probably work out payment options for you if you explain your situation.

Most people are kind--they don't want to evict a family. Even if your landlord is like "happylucky" and a real jerk, probably the judge and others will be nicer.

Rotten things happen to the best of us. Don't be scared when you go to court. Show the judge that you are honest and hardworking. You're a teacher for crying out loud.

At least you should be able to buy yourself some time until you can catch up.
