Lost Job, Home Pending Short Sale Approval

I live in Rhode Island and I was laid off in July of 2014. I have not been able to find employment as of yet. I haven't made payments on my mortgage since August because we cannot afford to with my loss of salary. We put our house on the market around October to do a short sale and I received an offer, very close to market value within three weeks. As of right now I am just waiting to hear from the bank to see if they will approve the sale. I am just wondering if there's anything else I should be considering? Should I be doing anything? If the short sale falls though, approach the lender about a deed in lieu of foreclosure.
