What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? california My husband and I built our home and his sister also built her home on the same lot. We want to get a lot-split which she had original agreed to and is now saying no to. Is there anything we can do?

**A: who are the current title holders of the lot? From your post, it appears that his sister is the owner of the land. Who is listed as landowner of the 2 building permits? Does the current zoning allow for the lot to be subdivided? Were the 2 homes built with cash? If not, who is the mortgagor? is there anything in writing regarding the ownership of the home, the lot split etc?

My Husband, myself and sister in law are the title holders. we each have a loan under a jumbo loan. The mortgage company separated the loans but we are still really under one. We built the homes ourself and then rolled over the loan. She is building a cafe on another parcel of land that my father in law owns. She borrowed money against another parcel that my father in law owns. She agreed that we would start a lot split as soon as she started building her cafe. She now has went back on her agreement on the lot split

**A: sounds like you need an attorney to get involved at this point. Search "partition" so you get an idea of what's to come.

You folks must have taken leave of your good sense in order to create such a legal mess! If you want me to explain the unfortunate legal ramifications and tell you what must be done in order to extricate yourselves, then say so because I won’t take the time unless you show a sincere interest in listening.

I will add this though. It is not something that you are going to resolve without professional assistance.
