What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? WA

Here is again the statute you mention: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=26.16.205

Wouldn't RCW 26.16.205 only apply to a couple who are married or in a registered domestic partnership? A simple marriage (creating a stepparent) does not a domestic partnership make, surely?

I had also initially mis- (well half- if truth be told) read the statute. Apologies for any incorrect info on my part (although there was, over 15 years ago, apparentlly a case where a stepfather who'd basically raised the kids ALONE - without EITHER parent - who no longer could or would (whichever), and found that while he could absolutely hand 'em over to whomever relatively easily but was bound to support them. Odd).
