I live in NC and would like a question answered. My husband presently is unemployed and is going to be a Dr. soon with a practice. He is studying for a license and should get that soon. I would like to know that if we file separation papers prior to him getting a position with a firm, and divorce after, will I be due any maintenance from helping him monetarily but mostly emotionally and physically with medical school and residency. We were married during residency (at which time he had an income) but dated during medical school. I am presently and have been the provider for over a year while he has been studying without any income from him. We do not have children. We also own a home together.
I would also like to know if his debt from medical school will affect me at all after divorce?
Thanks for your help
Meg
