My ex wife is trying to convert to Catholic religion. The Archdiocese of Atlanta sent me a letter which is a petition to make our marriage null under the laws of the Catholic Church. Will this affect my rights as a father to my son? She currently retains custody of our son and I see him once a month and on holidays. I am not sure if this will mess up my visitations with my son. So I wanted to have some advice. I can respond to the letter within the next 10 days if I object to anything or I can sit back and do nothing and they will make the marriage null and she will be converted to Catholic, which I have no problem with. I just want to make sure it will not affect my current situation with visitations and child support, which I pay to her. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Oh yeah - I am a Georgia resident
She is a Florida resident - if that helps any

The laws/rulings of the Catholic church have no connection to nor any effect on State laws. If you were legally married and legally divorced, that situation will not change. Your son will even remain your son (and only the Catholic church will think his parents were never married)! Sounds like she's clearing the way within the church to marry a Catholic (which marriage couldn't be recognized by the church if she had been previously married).

Grandma is absolutely right. Several years ago, a woman married to a famous Catholic was telling the tabloids her husband, who was seeking an annulment, wanted to make her children illegitimate.

As a woman who got a Catholic annulment married to a man who got a Catholic annulment, I can guarantee that the laws of the Church have no effect on "civil" law.

Good luck to you.

Thanks for your replies. It makes me feel a lot better knowing that nothing will happen in regards to me being able to see my son.
Thanks!!!!
