My child who is a minor ( 17 years old ) and her 2 friends ( also 17 ), were caught by security in an amusement park parking lot smoking marijuana inside of a car. They actually were exiting the car when security asked them if they had been smoking and they said yes. They wrote the incident up and turned it into the police. My child received a summons to appear in court and was charged with possesion of marijuana, even though my child did not have any on them and the friend has admitted to bringing it and they were in her car.

Questions:

Do I need a lawyer for this charge on a minor ( 1st offense )?

What could my child's outcome be ( fine, community service, etc...)?

Thank you,
