I was pulled over because my license plates were expired and the police while talking to me saw a blunt in the car and told me to get out of the car. They searched the car and found a bag of weed in the glove compartment. I had a friend in the car with me. They took us to jail but let him go without any charges but charged me with possession. The bag of weed weighed about 2 grams at the most. I told the police that there was weed in the car but I do not recall saying it was mine. I live in Chicago, IL and this took place in Chicago. People keep telling me that they are going to throw it out because it is my first offense and it was so small. Do you think I need a lawyer? Also can I obtain a copy of the police report from them or do I have to wait until trial?

Your friends are wrong. They never "throw out" charged drug offenses unless they were found in an illegal search, or some other technical matter requires them to ghrow it out. People are prosecuted for minute quantities all the time, as long as the quantity is useable, which two grams of weed is. You definitely need a lawyer to negotiate the best deal possible for you. Your attorney automatically gets a copy of the police report.
