can you get married while gone Awol?
I would prolly say yes to that question. When I got married I don't recall them doing a criminal background check on me or my wife. But why in God's name would someone want to? I mean that is so Ghetto

Yes, you can. But if a servicemember fails to follow appropriate administrative procedures for marrying they may be charged with a UCMJ offense such as failure to follow orders/general orders, etc.

The military can require you to do certain things ( like update paperwork, attend counseling, etc. ) prior to marriage -- but it can not prevent the marriage per se. If you fail to follow procedures you have violated an order and can be charged, but the marriage is still legal.

You can get married while AWOL, but now the military might have more charges to pin on you -- for failing to follow proper procedures.

Why would anyone want to marry someone who is AWOL?????

Think about it. The servicemember couldn't even live up to his/her own word for a COMMITTMENT of 2-6 years, yet is asking another person to accept his/her word for a LIFETIME of committment?

I don't buy it... Nobody should. ;)

And THAT is NOT what you told another poster. In fact you told them it didn't matter if they got a job first so they could have a little 'pocket change'.

OMG there is a huge difference between getting married and getting a nominal job. This is really getting stupid... I mean do we have to battle with pokemon or Yu-Gi-OH cards to see who his smarter, or perhaps we will have jumping jack contest. All I was suggesting to the kid was to not go back broke... Perhaps Pelt law would be helpful lol ;)

You missed the entire point in the other thread...

If the poster were to get a job, it would seal the prosecution's case... He never intended to go back, and therefore charged with desertion.

This is not the same as marraige.

It will not seal the prosecutions case. He was merely trying to make some money to get by. There is nothing wrong with trying to make things a little easier on ones self..
