My parents were married in New Hampshire in 1965. Now after 35 years my Mom filed for divorce here in Louisiana where they have lived all this time. She told my Dad she was married before and was using this man's name at the time of her marriage to my Dad. Even signed it on the marriage license. Now, after all the smoke has cleared, we find out she was never married to this man, that he never existed. But she used his name on my half-sister's birth certificate and was using his name for over 10 years!! She was in the Navy when she got pregnant, was discharged somehow before serving her full term. She had my sister 4 months after leaving the service. Now, we don't know who my sisters father is, my Dad tried to adopt her when she was 10, but my Mom wouldn't let him. But he did raise her!! Paid for everything for her till she left home. But, what we are really trying to find out is, was the marriage to my Father even legal to begin with?? She used a false name on the marriage license!!! Will we have to look into New Hampshire law to find out or Louisiana law?? I really need help here!!
