How can you be blindsided by something you've know about, and been consumed over, for many weeks?

People don't get arrested for having cyber affairs.
Inflicting punishment on yourself is not actually a great way to avoid punishment.
The OP should talk to someone who know the situation, him and can give some perspective.

It's quite possible keeping his mouth shut is the best possible plan now that it seems to be blowing over.

I told you to see a shrink and get some xanax until you can get over yourself.

You are not the only person to ever have a tepid cyber affair or too... Lighten up. Get some perspective on whether or not to tell your wife.

Because in moral town (this forum) probably a lot of people are going to tell you to come clean. That may not be the right choice for your marriage. Or maybe it is.

Oh no, I'm suggesting you lie to your wife, maybe... Why do you get absolution? Maybe there would be a huge price for that, for her...

You don't get cancer from from keeping secrets. That's some Disney myth.
Hummm...

Best chance of me forgiving hubby for a "tepid cyber affair or too (sic)...

1. Having the cops show up and tell me my hubby was cyber cheating on me, as part of an investigation...

2. Hubby manning up and being honest with me as I deserve....

hummm.....

I pick door # 2. And it's not about moral judgement...it's basic decent behavior that a spouse should exhibit to his/her partner. geesh...

Let's not lose focus here - the OP is worried about being charged with an online affair with an underaged girl. That's a bit different than a few nasty pics with the 30-year-old woman that you've never met.

Cyber affairs are a wee bit different from child pornography. Infringed porn films are different, too.

Any seizure of the computer will have to be explained to the spouse somehow (should the investigation lead to that - and, admittedly, it might not).

I am not sure this is something better left to surprise or if a foundation should be laid first. I guess it is up to thrndmon88.

It’s been two months and thankfully so far (fingers crossed) nothing else has come about from this. Just taking it one day at a time here.

I just saw on the news today that “Operation Broken Heart” has just finished up. Apparently it was a country-wide operation/investigation run by the ICAC task force to catch anyone who possesses, distributes, solicits, etc child porn. It was ongoing for the last 3 months (March, April, May) but has completed now. I’m assuming this investigation was part of that operations as the officer who investigated me was part of one of the divisions working that operation. Hopefully this means I’m good to go, however, I’ll still be cautious. If anyone comes to my door asking questions, I’ll make sure none are answered without a lawyer present.

Thank you everyone for the advice over the last two months. I really appreciate it.

I appreciate the update, thrrndmone.

Please be careful on the internet so you don't have to go through another investigation and this same type of worry again.

We all appreciate the thanks, so thank you. Good luck.
