Me & my wife have health insurance, but maternity coverage was not included. While I wanted to add the maternity coverage the insurance company said it has 12 months "waiting period" -- means she can get pregnant after 12 months from now-- not within the waiting period.

She is planning to get pregnant in this month.

If you're asking whether she'd be covered if she gets pregnant before the end of the 12 month waiting period, the answer is .....nope.

Yes - to buy a policy that includes maternity and does not impose a waiting period. And do it BEFORE she gets pregnant.

You will not be able to find any PRIVATE health insurance that covers maternity without a waiting period. If it existed, no one would ever buy the coverage until they were about to get pregnant and the insurance company would lose a ton of money.

The only way to get maternity coverage without a waiting period is to get it from an employer sponsored group plan. Those are not allowed to exclude maternity or impose a waiting period.

What does THAT mean? That women can't get pregnant at 35 or 36? I have two friend's whose child was born after 40 (and no IVF). I was pregnant at 42.

If she's not covered it's NOT wise to plan to get pregnant until the coverage kicks in - unless you don't mind paying OOP. You may both want to replan or be prepared for a large extra expense.
