What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Indiana
I have been a dog breeder and a responsible one for several years. I have never had this problem before. I had a litter of English bulldog puppies I took them to my local licensed vet that I have used for years. He found the one pup had a heart murmur. Per his diagnosis on a scale 1-5 ( 1 being the best and 5 worst) He graded the pup at a 1-2. He told me that the pup would probably grow out of the problem, some heart murmurs close as the pup grows. I was satisfied with that. So I listed the pup on the internet for sale. What a mistake! I put him at a reduced price of $800.00 so that who ever purchased him could take proper care of him and so on. I sold most of the other pups for $1300.00-$1800.00. When I advertised him I put in the ad my local vets contact # and explained what I thought was everything about the pups condition. I found the pup a home with a lady in another state. She had called my vet before making the purchase and emailed me and asked me if the pup had any kind of warranty due to his condition. I emailed her back absolutly not, no health guarantee what so ever. She purchased him anyway, I shipped him to her. She then several days later called me and said her vet diagnosed him with a level 5 heart murmur. He is only expected to live a few weeks. I was shocked and so was she. She then had more testing done and verified everything. I had her fax the paperwork to my vet. We have had a few verbal agreements and she keeps changing them. She is also trying to play my vet against me and he is trying to save his own butt by hanging me out to dry. He acted to me like there was no reason to think this pup should not have been sold. Knowing what I know now I would not have sold him. This lady thinks I should give her a perfectly good pup from my next litter for free. Or pay the cost of the dog plus all of the vet bills of about $2000.00. I do not feel that I have done anything wrong. I understand that the dog is worse than what we were told. But, I could only go by what my vet said. I am not a vet that is why I took him to one. I offered her money back, but that is not good enough for her. I also think if she wants another pup she should pay the shipping and the difference in price. If she wasn't so cheap and would have paid full price for a healthy pup she would not be in this mess. What should I do? Eveyone I have consulted tell me I should not do anything, but I could not live with myself if I do not. But I don't think I should have to do as much as she is asking. I am a victim here also not just her. We were both misinformed. My ver is a good person really and everyone makes misteakes.
Thanks,
