What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Indiana

Mayor telling other Officers I'm a liar
Hello everyone. I have been an Officer for twelve years with the same department. A newly appointed Mayor has become an arrogant power drunk individual who has began harassing employees at will. His latest antics were to call me a liar and claim that I had "illegally" hired an Officer(while I was Chief of Police). Not true. His motivations are to make room for another Officer by firing a current Officer I had hired, 1 day prior to his completion of his one year probation. Question, Slander? Defamation of character? Anything?https://forum.freeadvice.com/images/smilies/confused.gif

His statements were no more 'defamation of character' than the ones that you made against him in your post.

Liar

Really? I have not named him or the department. He is unknown to readers. The readers of this forum do not work for him. He is not a Police Officer who's word is his bond and reputation. And I have not stated this to his "subordinate" Officers or workers.

IF you suffered any damages from the statements to justify a defamation suit, you still probably can't sue him until he's out of office.
