florida. i have a co-worker who took her car in to checked. she paid 40.00 to have the car looked at, but did not approve any work to be done. the mechanic did work on the car and now wants $1,700.00 for the work done. he will not give my friend her car back until the work done is paid for. what recourse does she have since she did not approve the work to be done?

Unauthorized auto repair

In many states, there are very clear laws prohibiting a mechanic from performing unauthorized services. I am not sure about the Florida law on this, but I would suggest you start by contacting the Florida Department of Consumer Services. They should be able to handle this for you or point you in the right direction.
