my husband had surgery in february 1998, we thought he had insurance at the time and so did the provider as they "ran" the insurance and it came back as covered. one year later we received a bill from the surgeon stating that insurance did not cover after investigating we found out that his employer did not pay premiums. we have paid the surgeon off. i received a call from a collection agency today for the hospital bill portion--for $3,800, we have not heard or received anything from the hosptial since 1999, can they do this and how long can they wait to send these bills to me?
