What is the name of your state? Illinois
Several years ago I was put into an inpatient psychiatric ward against my will because some people around me thought that I was acting strangely. I was on a manic end that could have been handled on an outpatient basis. The doctor there would not release me early on until I did 2 brain scans. I refused and then agreed because I felt trapped either way. He did not release me anyway and I was there for nearly 2 weeks. The many days going by and one person deciding whether I could leave made me REALLY .I don’t remember that much from the stay because of the drugs and I came out with a bill of nearly $3700 because my school’s insurance didn’t cover a dime, only clinic coverage. I have written a letter of explanation to the credit agency after getting a credit card denial stating that I was being held against my will and the collections from the hospital were dropped. But the collections for the radio MRI and other procedure remain.
1. Do I have anything to dispute with on my own and escalate it and get this collection removed without paying them a dime for taking me like a prisoner and forcing me to do tests?
2. If I can’t dispute this what can I do to deal with this the best way so that I get it off my report?
3. How long will the unpaid collection negatively affect me?
4. Can I possibly still get a mortgage if I write a letter of explanation to the lender with this showing on my credit?
Thanks.
