my mother was working for a company in virginia that was also it's own medical insurance company, the company filed chapter 7 bankruptcy while my father was in the hospital with cancer, the medical bills piled up, the company has been appointed a trustee, is there any recourse to have the bankrupt company pay for the medical bills incurred??

If it had a self-insured plan, you're probably out of luck, and have to stand in line as a creditor and file a claim in the Chapter 7. Your claim may have some priority if it is regarded as wages. If there was an insurance company involved, that's different.
