What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Mississippi

My daughter enlisted in the Navy's Civil Engineering Corps and is about to graduate college, then head for OCS. In the past few months, she has developed back problems, perhaps a slipped disc, shin splints and other symptoms associated with physical training. I am concerned that she will not be able to continue P.T. at OCS because of these problems. We are seeking private medical advice. At what point might she qualify for a medical discharge and how likely is that?

is she actually in the navy right now. or what is her status with the military. does she have any rank.. from what i gathered from your post, it sounds as if she did some sort of delayed enlistment thing. which woulnt be much of a problem.. but if she has a slipped disc. i think the military will discharge her if they dont forsee it getting any better. but shin splints are minor. she they would probably just put her on profile for it. and let it heal. then make her go running untill she gets it again. then put her on profile again.

one thing you might want to check out is if her both her legs are the same length. its common for them not to be. and it makes it really hard on your body it they are not. expecially your back and knees. if they are not, all you have to do is put a lift in one shoe, and then she would be good to go

Her status is that the Navy paid for her education and now her mommy thinks she is injured. If she had a slipped disk, I would think she would know it.

Other than that, if she does have a serious injury, she could be discharged or her status changed and stay in to pay back her education fees.

Not 100% sure but I do believe that if she gets discharged she'll have to payback all of the education benifits. But that won't be determined until she if seen by a military doctor.

It mostly depends on your daughter if she can stick it out until she is commisioned or get a profile without the doctors finding anything really serious she can maybe try and blame the injury on something she did while commissioned so that if she does get discharged she won't have to pay the ed. benifits back and she will be covered medically by them.

once she gets commisioned, the army will have more invested in her, and wont get rid of her so easily...

Its a lot better than having to pay back the goverment for college. College cost a lot these days and could put anyone in a huge amount of debt when you suddenly find out you have to pay $50,000 or more.

Depending on how serious the injury is it is probobly best to try and get in and then see what happens from there.

chrisdizz22 is right that once your in they won't be ask quick to kick you out but it still happens to people who have a lot more invested than just a commision and a college education.

Paradise where did I say anything in this post about me going to college???

I'm talking about patsyb's daughter going to college and yes I'm sure you will get a bill for her college tuition. It should be coming in the mail any day now.
