What is the name of your state? nj. I need to find the law that prohibits a school nurse or other school official from demanding that parent/guardian put a child on medication to help control behavior. Actually, my understanding is that the school cannot force parents to give any medication they choose not to use for their child. Can anybody tell me exactly what the law says and where to find it?

Hope this helps

First of all, is your child in grammar school? middle school? or high school? second, was it a school nurse or a school official that made the remark?

and just to let you know ahead of time, your right, they cant make demands... they can only advise you to seek outside medical attention, (something they cant force, unless your child is putting other children in danger, then its a whole other ball game)

You're not looking for a law that says they CAN'T put your child on medication.

You're looking for a law that says they can. There IS no such law.

They cannot put your child on medication without your knowledge and consent.

If they believe that your child has special needs that interfere with his education, then they have a duty to devise an education plan to deal with those issues.

If you don't agree with them, then they can take you to a hearing and try to force what they believe to be an appropriate education plan for him.

Hope this information helps you.
