What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Live in Tennessee, divorce case in Louisiana.

I do not have a lawyer and can not afford one at the moment but we have been going through this divorce for almost 2 years now. In the beginning I got papers from my soon to be ex husband saying he was fighting for custody then only a few weeks later he contacted me and said that was a mistake and he just wanted joint custody and him to have the visitation. I talked to his lawyer to confirm it and he also went to court for us and said since we were agreeing on things we wouldn't have to attend he could just go for us. Since it is Louisiana we would have to wait 365 days for the final divorce since we have minor children. I never received new papers in the mail and haven't signed anything yet but I have contacted his lawyer several times with each time him taking down my address and saying I would get papers soon and I never did so finally I got sick of it and just scheduled an appointment which is tomorrow evening. Our 365 day wait is finally up next month so I'm trying to get this done and over with. Is there anything I need to watch out for with meeting his lawyer or anything I should do? Any advice would be great, I'm a little nervous about meeting him tomorrow for some reason. Thanks.

You MUST go to the hearing. Read anything he wants you to sign very carefully before signing. In fact, don't sign it right then, take it home and read it a few times. This lawyer does NOT represent you and does NOT have to work for your best interests. Don't forget that he's not on your side.
