i am mad as wet hen!

i work in the state of north dakota.

i recently brought a 6 million dollar+ account in to my company and because of the large dollar amount there was a lot of excitement about the sale. then during the normal process of working the account i found out that the men that work in another department get a bonus and a commission every time this happens (it was supposed to be a company secret). so a young man who is 23 years old will get a bonus and a commission on the over 6 million dollar sale I made. I am a 44 year old woman. I get an hourly wage.

i feel taken advantage of and feel awful. i have not been able to sleep at night for several weeks. i should be celebrating the great job that i have done. no one has even said "congratulations". they are all holding their breath to see what will happen now that i found out i will not get commission on the sale. i spoke to the man who owns the company so he knows that i am the one who made the sale but nothing has happened or changed.

i think this is discrimination in two ways.
it is discrimination to pay someone else a commission on a sale that i made (employment discrimination) and also discrimination against women. the men are paid a higher hourly wage to sit at their desks and wait for women to do the hard work(cold calling)of sales and then the men reap the benefits.

i used to love my job and now i feel used and abused and de-motivated. the other women know that they are treated differently because they are women and do not like it but are loyal to the company and would not "rock the boat". i am sure they have also lost thousands in commissions that have been paid to young men.

i do not want to lose my job, but it is getting harder and harder to stay also.

any words of wisdom or advice?
please write.
thank you,
mad hen
