Dear IAAL: I am pleased to inform you that I WON!!! I know you tired to me, but I thought you would like to know what the out come was. I followed your advise; wrote the letter to the collection agency, invoking my rights under the FDCPA. I continued to write to hospital; they continued to ignore me, but not for long!! Even though it has seemed like an enternity to me. They admit the screw up was theirs from the beginning. They have offered me a 50% settlement, with payment going directly to them, not collection agency. They tell me there is no
notation on my credit history of this and there will be none in the future. I have a copy of my credit history from Equifax; no inquiry shows there.

My final questions for you!!
1) How do I handle collection agency now?? They have not responded to my 4/24 letter; they did receive it; I have the post office stub.
2) If one credit bureau shows "all is well in Dodge City" do the other two major ones show it also?? Hospital tells me I don't need to worry. But my faith in them is pretty low right now!
3) If I accept this 50% deal, will this end up negatively reflecting on my credit history in the future? If I accept this offer, it will be the first time I've not paid the full amount of a bill. Should I be concerned?

Thanks for everything! Your time and effort helped a great deal; I know it went on forever for you! But you did help and I wanted you to know.

Dear IAAL,

All is well. I forged my way through, using the brain God gave me. And everything worked out perfectly, including the hospital admitting they were wrong in the first place.

It's sad that you didn't respond. Don't blame me; if you responded too much in the first place, that's not my fault, but yours!
Seems to me that your ego may have taken over here.

My response:

Perhaps you think I "owe" you something? The most time I spend on any given question is, perhaps, 5 minutes, and I may spend more time if the legal issue is intriguing. Yours was not.

But, perhaps you think you're special. With over 6 BILLION people on this planet, I'm having some difficulty with that prospect.

But, I'll let you in on a little secret:

All of the people who care about you and your problem live in Lincoln, Nebraska. I don't live there.

just as i thought!! you "over extended" yourself; went beyond your limits and now you're really angry at yourself, because it wasn't even interesting!! don't you just hate it when that happens? but don't be too hard on yourself; you're human, just like the rest of us, which means you learn something new every day...if you allow yourself the opportunity.

thanking you and giving you a compliment didn't budge you, but let your ego get bruised up a bit and in the end, you are reduced to emotional dribble. how sad.

My response:

Went "beyond my limits"? On your problem?

In your dreams, perhaps. That's a real laugh. Lady, I've been practicing law for over 20 years, have my own offices and two partners, a bevy of secretarys, and a staff that would choke a horse and, on top of that, I teach Civil Procedure at a very nice law school. How do you think I have time to assist on this site, because I have no money to pay my bills, like you?

Beyond my limits? What a joke you are. Get a life. And get an education so you can get a job to pay your bills.

You know what? Just sit back in your chair, which is in your trailer home, watch some T.V., and swill another beer.

You see, that's the difference between you and me. You're the one writing to an internet site because you have no clue how to run your life and your affairs.

I do.

When I wrote of you going beyond your limits, I was referring to the 5 minutes you had previously mentioned as the extent of time you spend on any one message. The time you spent on my situation was well beyond that time frame. You mistakenly thought my comments were directed towards your business life.

Your obvious ire could have been completely avoided by simply being polite in the first place. And now that your ego has been bruised, you have resorted to a level of emotional maturity that speaks far more loudly about you than any amount of chest beating you could do.

My response:

How many times do I have to flush before you go away?
