I purchased a membership ($25K w/$8K deposit) from Palace Premier (via credit card) to resell 1 week vacations. Notified credit card companies within 1 month of purchase to cancel (no luck). What they said during the sale was not true but we have a contract with them. Premier want their $25K or they will get a collection agency. Are we protective by any consumer rights on what we believe to be a scam or at least pressure selling. Palace Premier says the according to Mexican law we are obligated to pay the $25K. If we do not pay what can a collection agency do. How can I get protection from a scam or pressure sales outside of the US?
Legally...do I have to pay them the balance?
Can a collection agency enforce a contract outside of the US? I don't really want to spend another cent on this...i'm looking for some literature or guidance as to my rights as a consumer in the USA.
