My bf got an MIP but he blew a 0.0. He was however helping a friend hold his closed case of beer for a few minutes and cops came and gave him an mip. Was their an actual violation here since he is over 18 and people over 18 can transport alcohol? If so what will his punishment most likely be?

If he was holding it for his underage friend, he could also face a contributing charge under the right fact set.

If he was under the age of 21 and in possession of alcohol in a public place (or any other prohibited place) then he was in possession.

I suspect the transportation exemption applies (if it exists) if the alcohol were in the trunk of his car, or, he were transporting in the course of employment or some such thing.

The friend is over 21 years old. What kind of punishment would he get since he blew a 0.0? Does anyone know if the law is different in Illinios because thats where he is from?

The crime was in Michigan however per your first post. Hence he was in possession of alcohol and underage.

What he blew has no bearing on this case whatsoever. He is not being charged with intoxication. He is being charged for holding the alcohol. It doesn't matter that he is from Illinois if this happened in Michigan.
