What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Michigan
Hi, when i started renting my apartment i signed up for the suggested rental insurance for savings. Halfway through my lease the company stopped serving michigan. The company was trying to mail me a refund check but i didnt change my legal address from previous residence. The apartment calls me a month or maybe 2 later saying that company was looking for me. In that phone call they never stated i needed to bring a new rental insurance to the office. So months later i receive 6 envelopes on my door stating i need new rental insurance or they would charge me $3 a day. At this point it had been 5 months. So they are suing me for non payment of rent. I have never made a late payment. They said they took my july rent and applied it to my rental insurance. So i have non payment for july and late fees. Now they wont accept my check for august. Is that legal. They basically stole my july money. Also they never once called about this problem or contacted me in any way. I called to ask about this. Very rude, talked over me, hung up on me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

1. What does you lease say about renters insurance?

2. Is there something in your lease that payments are used for fees etc. first before applied for rent?
