What is the name of your state? Oregon

We have legal guardianship of a little girl. Her biological mother wants to change her name, as do we. I will be filing the paperwork. According to the laws I have read on the matter, the guardian can be the petitioner. My question is, since I am not her biological parent, do I need to peition the court to make me the Guardian Ad Litem or can I just act as the parent and skip this step?

Where is the father?

In any event, ma and the guardians should both sign. A GAL will be appointed to represent the kid.

You will not be the guardian ad liteum. Please find out the meaning of that word. For the rest of it -- what SJ said.
