YOUR STATE NAME - California. I am seeking sole legal custody of my infant son, where do I start? I also can't afford to live in this state and I wanted to move to Oregon after I turn 18. What are my rights? Where do I go.

My response:

First, you start by making a phone call to a Family Law attorney, by looking in your Yellow Pages. Unless the biological father is legally "unfit" as a parent, you'll never get "sole legal custody" of your child. Remember, it's "his" child too.

When you turn 18, you're legally an "adult." If you want to move to Oregon after you turn 18, then go ahead - - unless you have orders from the court that say otherwise; e.g., if the father has visitation rights, you'll need permission from the court before you can take the child out of the jurisdiction.

Good luck to you.
