MIP in mi - Future consquences? PLZ HELP!

Im 19 yearsold and live in Michigan, and last night I was at a party, the police showed up, and I got a charge for Minor In Possesion of Alcohol.

When I was 16 or 17, I had a similiar charge for a Minor In Possesion of Alcohol, however the court told me if I took classes (called Project REHAB) it would not appear on my record. I believe the term is juvinile adjudication.

I have not gone to court yet, but i am extremely nervous about the future impact this is going to have on my record. I have been blessed with a high level of intellegence and I have a lot of potential, but with this on my record, I am worried about how it will affect future career and education opportunities. Can anyone tell me the long term consequences of having a misdemeanor MIP charge on your adult record?

No, I don't have a problem with alcohol. According to one survey, about 75% of highschool students have admitted using alcohol by their senior year. I am part of this statistic, but in the past 5 years, I have consumed alcohol less than 10 times. Only on rare occasions did I drink, and never did I drive while intoxicated. I don't plan on drinking anymore till I turn 21 in about a year. All I am asking is will this charge on my record be a major obstacle to overcome, or is it a small blemish that will not significantly harm my future college and career opportunities?

Your life choices say otherwise. Take this as a hint to be more responsible with alcohol, and if you refuse... well, just try to wrap yourself around a telephone pole, instead of a minivan full of kids.

Doug, life choices are external results that don't reflect internal talent, and as I've said before I NEVER drank and drove.

If I were to do this exact same thing in Canada or Europe, or if I had done it a year from now, it would LEGALLY be considered responsible. Next time, you should be more responsible with your replies and read the whole post before you decide to pass judgement on someone. Take this as a hint, and don't ever become a motivational speaker.

And if you take this reasoning to court (for What...the second or third time... )..You will not last a minute.

Obviously, you did not put your high intelligence or your potential into getting out of this dilemma ...So maybe you shouldn't have boasted!

Im not trying to get out of this delimma, just get through it. Obviously i'm guilty and not even the late Johnny Cochran could get me out of this. I wasn't boasting, it was simply to provide circumstantial information about my particular situation.

Didn't understand what you said about my 'reasoning to court,' nor do I care. BTW- what are you implying by the name 'sticky fingers'?

Luckily, there are people on this forum who don't just roam the posts looking for people to attack and ridicule, and I was able to get my 'monies worth of free advice' by posting this at another section.

I don't know what the purpose of your post was; I guess putting an advice-seeking teen right in his place really makes your day or something. Anyway, im done trying to defend myself from people like you, nothing I will say is going to change your attiude rowards me. Just know that Jesus loves you.
