What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Michigan

My 18 (almost 19) year old step daughter was charged with MIP in Detroit. She was holding the alcohol in a pop bottle, no breathalizer was taken. I am aware of the diversion programs that are often offered to first time offenders, but we are not residents of the US (we are in Ontario). Will this be an option for her? If so, how would it work (ie. probation etc) when she does not live in the state. If she is not offered a diversion program (because of her residency) what would the likely penalty be?

Also, what is the usual time between arraignment & a court date (if diversion is not offered)?
