What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas

I was at an apartment a few hours ago where alcohol was being consumed. I had a cup of beer in my hand when someone opened the door for a police officer. I was issued an MIP citation.

Here's the thing. I go to school here, but my license is from Illinois. I provided him with my name and DOB. He spelled my name wrong, but that doesn't really matter I don't think.

I was just wondering what to expect. It says I need to appear in court within 10 days from this Monday, which I plan on doing. However, I want to ask for Deferred Disposition.

This is my first offense. I have never even received a speeding ticket. Do I call the clerk first? Do I just walk in and plead No Contest and ask for deferred disposition?

Also, what am I looking at as far as penalties? The thing I'm really worried about is getting a suspended license, however I've been told by numerous people that this is HIGHLY unlikely.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Don't even consider going to court on this without an attorney. You will get hammered, and very likely get a large fine, license suspension, alcohol school, etc.
