I did not sign a form stating my employer could take my money for this.
We cannot force people to fill out the tickets to run through the machine.
Man comes in, agitated and drunk and wants a Megamillion. He wanted me to put all the values in myself. You cannot cancel a mega after printing.

I open Mega and ask the first question, he said 15. It only goes to 10. He said fine ok 10.

I did this with every question. I made him give me a number or a yes or no answer. It was a quick pick so thankfully that can't be my fault.

His ticket was 120.00.

I then said Sir, this ticket is 120.00 are you sure you want it?

"YES"

I placed it in front of him and he got mad and said it wasn't what he wanted. That he wanted 15 tickets. He literally said "yes" when I asked "do you want this on one ticket?" When I asked how many plays he wanted he said 15 and this is when I said the game only goes to 10. My Mgr confirmed this too. It was as if he was totally confused and left me holding the bag.

I called my manager and they said they will look at the tape and deal with it. I don't want to lose a job or get pay taken. I can't find the lotto rules. Personally, I think it should be illegal to walk away from printed tickets and all people should be made to fill out a slip so that the error or change of mind or just being dumb and drunk is their fault.

I am not in a union but they fire people over some pretty low amount of losses here. Does anyone have any insight on what gas stations can do or if they can be compensated? I have never worked in a place you can't fix mistakes after the fact. Not being able to cancel it or the store get the money back is absurd and if that is how lottery works I have decided I don't want a job ever running lottery.

I am confused by what you are saying. A Mega Millions ticket cost $120? The purchase price of a Mega Millions ticket is $5. Where are you getting the $120?

Your employer could fire you (for any reason, or no reason) but they can't legally deduct money from you pay, even if you made an error. That is not to say they couldn't try and deduct money from you pay, but just tell them it is not legal and you will file a lawsuit for damages and punitive damages.

Aren't there other places you can find a similar job if you did get fired?

There is probably a very good reason the lotto games don't allow refunds once the ticket is printed, although I am not expert on that subject so maybe you can search the Internet for a good explanation.

If that happened to me, and the ticket purchaser wanted separate tickets to give to different people, I would have suggested that he just write the names of each person on the separate lines of the ticket to denote which numbers belong to whom.

The price was recently increased to $5. Before that the price was either $2 or $3 (with multiplier), so not sure how they got $120 under the old prices either.

I took your advice. OP is rude and foulmouthed to the volunteers that have tried to assist her.
