I am in California.

I have a cellular phone service contract that states "Each Mobile Number with "(Name of Company)" as the "Carrier" shall remain active a minimum of 181 consecutive days. This period is to begin on the date of this agreement." There's more to the contract about other situations that don't apply. After the 181 days ended I disconnected and now I am being charged a early disconnection fee. I have contacted the service and they state this contract is not with them but the company who sold me the phones. That my service contract is a verbal contract that is in effect for one year. How can this be when I never arranged for service in the first place and I didn't speak to anyone about my service? The rep sold me phones, told the plan I would get and said my service would be on within a few hours.
