What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? VA
Father died, step mother died 2 weeks later. No children with 2nd wife. Her family is settling estate...Back in January we were told that there were several insurance policies for myself and brothers and our mom with a total value around 19,000.00. The execu"witch" gave us a list with only names and amounts-no policy numbers, phone numbers. She was to get back with us upon finishing reviewing all items. Well, here it is November and we had to contact her...her lawyer just sent us letter today stating that the insurance policies had been misplaced!! She would continue to look for them, but we should have enough info to get the claims filed. Well, after contacting (at numerous numbers - old policies that had been transferred to other companies) the companies, we've come up empty handed. What can be done now?? Is she liable for losing them?? Should we file a claim with the Commissioner of Accounts? Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
