I recently finished a medical coding specialist program at a technical school. I and about 5 other students were told by a certain admissions rep that we could make between $16-$18 per hour in the medical coding field. Now we find out that the starting pay is nothing near what she told us when we enrolled. Do we have any kind of legal course of action toward the school? I would like my tuition back. What kind of lawyer would we contact?

My response:

You would, likewise, hold some responsibility in this matter. The information you needed to enter into this contract was also readily available to you. You may have a cause of action for misrepresentation, but it sounds more like "puffing" which is not actionable.

Your action would be for rescission of the contract based upon negligent representations, and detrimental reliance. However, like I said, the information you needed was also available to you before you made a decision to sign. Therefore, any action you pursue is going to be an uphill battle.
