What is the name of your state? Missouri
My 15yr old is full of anger and is threatening to get emancipated. Can this even be done? What age does she have to be if she can?

Well unless she can fully support herself on her own, tell her you looked into it and she is grounded.

Missouri Emanciaption

Missouri Oh she is definitely grounded. She skipped school 3 days in a week's time. She has stated that she talked to a lawyer, (which I do not believe) and she is threatening to use the fact that I am in counseling to get herself emancipated.

OH! That tactic..........HMMMMM> Take her TV, Stereo and any other precious thing she has from her for the skipping, and then tell her to site the law she thinks she knows. Don't play into her "Lawyer said" game. Instead ask her how she can pay for that lawyer.

Don't ya just love this wonderfull age?

ps. Your counceling is none of her business unless she is in it with you.

Tell the little brat that except in California, a 15 year old cannot be emancipated; that in ANY state, including Missouri, she has to be able to completely support herself BY HERSELF (no moving in with a friend, no moving in with her friend's parents, no moving in with ANYONE - she has to pay rent, food, transportation, insurance, medical care, school expenses (oh yes, she still has to go to school), movies, CDs, clothing, shoes, shampoo, ALL BY HERSELF), and she has to have her parents WRITTEN permission to be emancipated.

Tell her that she may have talked to a lawyer, but you talked to a JUDGE and he said there were three steps to emancipation in Missouri:

(1) Get a full-time job.

(I will tell her the other two steps when she does step one.)

Take every possible privilege away from her you can. You should not allow this child to be running your life.

You being in counceling is not grounds for her to get emancipated, however it is possible that she talked to an attorney and like here they only got her side, just as we only got your side.

While she might not get emancipated, if you are in counceling for some sort of, crime, abuse, neglect or in some way found to be unfit, then it is possible that she might be put in foster care until she is 18 rather that emancipation. a prospect which might be somewhat less appealing than being on restriction as group homes or juvie can have lots of rules.

Perhaps arranging a visit to a group home or juvie might educate her ;) Kinda like when a little child threatens to run away and packing them a pbj sandwich and saying good bye and waiting as they stand outside the house and can't figure out what to do.
