Here's the deal. As I know it was not a smart decision there is nothing I can about it now. I'm a college student and was charged with Mistermeaner larceny. My court date is in December. This is my first offense and will be my last. What exactly do I need to do? Obviously show up to court, but further more than that. Do I need a lawyer? Is the option of "deferred prosecution" avaliable? Can I get it expunged? and how long will this stay on my record?

Those answers are dependent on the state you are in. That is why the question was asked before you posted your question.
