What is the name of your state? Michigan

Hopefully someone will be able to shed some light on this. Approximately 2 months ago, my wife voluntarily surrendered her mobile home for foreclosure as we were unable to sell it. We received the notice of foreclosure in the mail, which stated that the home would be sold at "private" sale on 9/19/2005. I have been told that they had to sell it at a public auction/sale. Is this true?

Also, is there a certain time limit the mortgage company has to notify her what the outstanding balance is after the proceeds of the sale had been applied? We have made numerous attempts to contact the lender by phone and have had no success in getting an answer. Thanks in advance.

Erik
