What is the name of your state?
Hi all,
I'm so glad to have found this forum, I hope somebody can help me out
here -

I live in New Jersey - way down in Ocean County, which is South. The other
day I received a notice in the mail saying I had to pay a Parking Ticket
for parking in front of a Fire Hydrant, on Spring Street, in NYC - Only problem
is, I've NEVER been to NYC since 9/11!! But there it was, my license
number on the ticket description, AND the make an model in the description
of the vehicle! HOW is this even possible???? I'm totally baffled here and
honestly, I don't want to even step foot in NYC at any traffic court - then
it would be just my word against a Police Officer's word, right?!

Question:

Is it even possible for somebody to have a second set of the same tags,
with the same vehicle?? Its like I woke up in the Twilight Zone or
something - I have written a letter to the Parking Violations stating the
same thing, but doubt that will suffice - and I'm sure all they care about
is gettin that $125.00 - But what if it continues??? Can somebody use
your Identification for such ??? I'm totally floored here and don't know
where to turn -

If anybody can offer some advice, I would be very grateful to you - Otherwise
I will just pay the ticket BUT have already stated in my letter that I will
NOT plead GUILTY to the charge - because it was not me... Like that even
matters, right?! OY !!!

Thanks for any advice can you offer -

You Are Guilty

Unless you have some concrete evidence that you were nowhere near NYC on the date of the ticket, they'll find you guilty. And quite frankly, even if you do have the evidence, if you don't show up to contest it in person, you'll still probably be found guilty (the adjudication by mail option is a joke).

You can try calling them to negotiate off the late fees and penalties, but I'd probably just pay it, especially if you ever plan on driving in the city in the future.

Oy

thanks for the reply - we figured as much anyway - I mean anybody can
just say they weren't there - as far as any semblance of honesty from
people nowadays, if I were the Judge I wouldn't believe them either....Sad
but true.

again, thanks alot for taking time to respond.
