Sadly another statistic I am.
I have been married for several years and I recently purchased a duplex property in my name only due to the fact my ex-wife has 2 previous bankruptcy's.
Due to divorce I am planning to relocate south.
Seeing as the house was bought in my name whilst we were married, what are my legal issues with this situation?
I would possibly like to rent both sides of the property, but obviously my wife lives in one side. I cannot really afford to make mortage payments, and live elsewhere myself.
My Ex wife has 2 children though these are from a former marriage from whom she does recieve child support from their biological father.
I'm not meaning to be cold and calous but I do not want to end up paying the way for someone else's life that is no longer my pleasure& involvement it. It has been more or less that way for some time.
Does my wife have any legal rights to the property ? I am scared that the condition of the property may deteriorate or become neglected.
Whilst it seems to be amicable at this time, I know that my wife CAN change her attitude so I just need to know what I may be facing as worst case scenario. This is NY state !!
Please help
My "thanks very much" in advance.
Alan
