mortgage question regarding new servicer

I'll try to keep this as short as possible, and apologize in advance if you find it to wordy.

Early this year, our mortgage banker went belly up. After some trial and tribulation I discovered who the new servicer was to be, on my own, and proceeded to setup our online account and make our payments with them. No one informed us according to RESPA guidelines. I never was able to find out who actually owned the mortgage during the past 8 months, just the servicer. Two weeks ago, we received a letter from the current servicer notifying us that servicing was being moved to another servicer, effective Oct 16th. The most recent servicer has not contacted us in any way to date, and our next payment is due Nov 1. I discovered that I cannot process the next payment to the previous servicer, because on midnight of Oct 16th they zeroed out and closed our account. I have read approximately 4 different translations online this week from different sources as to what the new servicer's responsibility is to notify us, and they are all extremely different. It looked to me like they were supposed to contact us no later than 15 days before our next due date, which would have been Oct 16th. I'm reluctant to contact them since I was given two different sets of contact information in two different states by the previous servicer, and the website for the new servicer has several sets of contact information, none of which agree with what I was given. What is the new servicer's responsibilty to us, and what is the time frame for them to act? Can we be blackmarked if the Nov 1 payment is not paid to them on time? We've worked hard to maintain a very good credit score, and don't want to mar it. Is it in best interest to hunt them down for our information, or would we be better off to wait and see what happens?What is the name of your state?

**A: this has been an ongoing problem for many years. Keep calling and get to the bottom. You are not going to be penalized for being proactive and paying on time.
