Movie with copyright infrigaments

Hi everyone,

Is it legal to post an embedded movie with copyright infringements to your website in USA? You didn't upload the movie, another website did. And is it legal to put ads next to them?

Thank you! Do you know if this also applies to a simple hyperlink that directs to that webpage with that movie? For example I have a link on my website that says "watch this movie here now" and it directs to a webpage that has the movie on it. That webpage contains copyright infringements, but I'm not hosting the movie, just directing where it goes. Sort of like how google works..

If your link leads to an infringing copy of a copyrighted movie or copyrighted whatever, you can be held liable for contributory copyright infringement. See the following case to, perhaps, understand this better: Intellectual Reserve, Inc v Utah Lighthouse Ministry, Inc, 75 F.Supp 2d 1290 (D.Utah 1999).

This is not how Google works.
