I'm a Northern Girl
Sure, as soon as she turns 18.

Until then, she lives where her parents/guardian say she lives unless the situation is so bad that CPS removes her from the home.

And while you didn't ask this, we KNOW it's what you were thinking - NO, there is absolutely no chance whatsoever that she will be allowed to live with you/your family.

Awwwww.....CBG--you don't understand. Her parents are mean, they don't treat her well and me and my family love her and we can keep her safe. Plus, there's the added perk that we can also have lots and lots of illicit sex.

Don't you see why it's the bestest most awesome idea for her and me?

Paul listen to me, you are teetering very close to the ledge of the sex offender registry.

Once there, you will never return to the mainstream non sex offender society.

EVER!

Being on the sex offender registry will determine where you live, where you work (or even IF you work) and who is willing to associate with you.

Many otherwise decent men and women are listed because they made foolish mistakes when they were younger and "in love". Their names are right there with perverts and child molesters.

All it takes is one phone call from one angry parent to set this in motion.

I suggest you not push your luck. The stakes are too high.

If you don't want to follow my advice, will you at least think of me at your sentencing?

What?! You have no idea how old the OP is. He could be 16 as well. How in the world would consensual sex between two 16 year olds in the state of North Carolina land him on the sex offender registry?

He could even be as old as 19. The gap for consensual sex in NC is three years.

Now the big test.

If your girlfriend is being abused, call child protective services. They will place her in a safe and secure foster home if the abuse is proven.

But, you say, that isn't what I want. I want her to live with me. If she lives in a foster home, she may move away.

Then she really isn't being abused. If you believe she should stay with her parents if she can't live with you, then you are wasting our time even asking the question.

The answer is, "No." If her parents disapprove of the move, it ain't happening and anyone harboring her against the parents' wishes could be guilty of a crime.

If, as was mentioned, she is being treated badly as in she is being physically assaulted or sexually abused, then call the police and child services. they will see that she is placed in a safe environment. If she is "treated bad" because mom and dad have rules and expect her to follow them, then there is no real recourse.

When she is 18 she can move out and the two of you can play house. Until then, she is the responsibility of her parents.
