I am to leave the US (May 22, 2001, temporarily, a good friend of mine owns a business and has to come back to the US for surgery. I have been asked to stand in for the next 6 months or longer depending on how well she does. My husband and I have been seperated for 15 months, no formal agreement was ever filed. He has decided that he wants to file now. This seperation agreement will be filed in the state of NC. When court dates are set and requested, if I am not able to make them how will this effect the outcome of my agreement and decree. He has frozen me from all the accounts, I am unable to hire an attorney to represent me. I have been supported by him for 19 years )140,000 income, we own a house w/equity loan, he has a sizable retirement plan. He has offered me 25,000 for a quick settlement, which I feel isn't fair. I've deligently saught employment for the past year and have had no luck, I am 40, without formal education, we married when I was 20, I gave up a career and quit school to raise children and stay at home. During our seperation he threatened bankruptcy and suicide if I filed, intimidated I didn't. Now he's sought an attorneys advice, and made this offer that seems unfair. He will keep the house, children are 15 and 18. Any help?? Suggestions?

If you leave the country and this goes to count without you, then he will basically get everything he asks for and you will end up with virtually nothing.

You need to find someway to retain an attorney. You could walk away from this with a great deal more than 25k, and also alimony for at least 10 years. If you can find the money to at least retain an attorney, they might allow payment later since there is a lot of money involved.
