MyYardIsShrinking

Our neighbors (in Tennessee) have started mowing further and further into our yard. The property line is halfway between our two houses, but they're now mowing several feet into our yard. Looks like my yard is shrinking every time I come home after they've mowed. I was angry enough when they started mowing up to some trees on our property, but this last week they even mowed a strip on *this* side of the trees! Sure makes it look like their yard is bigger and the trees are theirs. I can only imagine that this is their motivation. What else could it be?
My husband just laughs and says to let them mow our yard if they want. He won't talk to them, and I'm way too shy (we barely even wave in passing). I worry that even a polite letter asking them to stop would cause problems, feuding neighbors and all that. I sure don't want to have to move anytime soon.
But I also worry that they'll someday try to claim that the land is theirs because they're "maintaining" it. Can they do that if we do like my husband wants and just ignore it?
I've thought about springing for another survey, hoping it wouldn't cost as much as when we bought the house, since it'd only be for one property line. But we don't want to put up a fence or hedge, so I don't know if that would help at all. We couldn't keep the survey stakes up forever. But they might get the hint, right? Or do I have to get brave and actually confront them?
Any suggestions would be welcome, and any input into the legal situation (property claims, trespassing, whatever) would be greatly appreciated.
