Multi state custody?

What is the name of your state? Florida.

My boyfriend’s son resides with his mother in Alabama and they have joint custody. The boy just turned 15 and wishes to live with his father as he lives in a bigger city with better schools then his small town.

1) What rights does the father have to try to get his son to live with him?
2) Is a fifteen old enough to speak for himself?
3) Does it matter that different states to file? (It's only a three hour drive)

He is a great kid and I'd like to see him with his dad without too much friction.
Advice, anyone?

Your boyfriend would have to file for custody in the state that currently has jurisdiction. The judge may take the child's wishes into consideration.
